under normal driving i never hear this but when i accelerate really hard and get to about 3500K I hear this rattle sound coming from up front, sounds like its below the engine. Sounds Kind of like rocks in a Coffee can rattling around. Could this be the gas I'm using? I just got the car a month ago and put mid-grade in it. should i be using Premium? its a 2001 vert, 96K miles, the only mod is a K&N CAI but i heard this sound before the CAI.

Thanks for the help
Sounds like it may be detonation. I would certainly start with putting a better grade of gas in.
I had the same pinging issue for a while with my 2001 vert as well. Did the top end cleaner and new gas but it did not help. Chuck Cow finally came to the rescue and suggested I clean my MAF. Did that and a fresh tank of 93 octane and the pinging has stopped.
Ill try the gas and the cleaner first. I've still got about 3/4 tank of the 89 octane in it right now. Is it ok for me to put some Octane boost in the tank to get me started, or just wait until my tank is empty.

Ya, 89 is going to cause all kinds of noise under full throttle. I actually got some bad 93 and I had the same issues. The engine can run on 89, but will pull timing and make the engine run like crap. Grab some octane booster and top off with 93. Once I ran all the bad gas out, my engine knock went away.
Okay, at 3.5 million RPM's I think everything would rattle.
Seriously though, everyone jumped on engine knock and that may well be the problem even though I think the anti-knock sensor would quiet that by pulling timing out, you may have a loose exhaust header, metal shielding or something else going on under there. Good Luck!
