My C5 has an automatic function while at low RPM's, and when shifting from 1st to 2nd, it will not allow it and wants me to go to 4th. This doesn't make sense as I'm already at low RPM's. Does anyone know how or if you can shut that off?
M6? you're talking about C.A.G.S right? If so you can by a skip shift eliminator for the wiring harness on the transmission or have it removed from the PCM by a tuner/tuning program such as EFI live or hp tuners
You are in luck... this is perhaps the easiest and among the cheapest, yet most beneficial mods you can possibly do to a C5.
You are being annoyed by the 1-4 skip shift feature; which GM had to implement to avoid the Corvette being saddled with a gas guzzler tax.
What you need is a skip-shift eliminator, and they are I think less than $20 from Southern Car Parts, a forum vendor here. Free shipping. Installation is very easy; you just need to jack and support the rear of the car so you can get underneath and attach the thing. I did this in five minutes, including jacking time.

Huttler nailed it. skip shift eliminator is probably easiest route
Thank you all- I'll give that a try. Another annoying feature you may also know about is the A/C decides to turn itself on at random- even while running the heat. Is this also an automatic feature? Possibly to keep the A/C pump running periodically? It does it VERY OFTEN!!! I shut the A/C off and it turns back on again within a few minutes.
I know on some settings such as defrost the a/c is on no matter what, I've also noticed if the temperature is set at say 75 degrees and then I turn it down to 65 degrees the a/c will automatically come on.

The A/C is used during the heat cycle to dehumidify the air in the car.
It's common to see the A/C running in 30-40 degree outside air temperatures. If you want to prevent it, then just press the "OFF" button, then select just floor heat and/or vents, then press the fan speed control button. If you ever hit "AUTO" or select the defrost function, then the A/C turns on automatically to dehumidify the air.
Most of this info is in your owners manual. If you don't have the manual, then you can do a search for it here on the forum. There is a digital copy floating around here somewhere.
When you started that I thought you were going to say just use your right foot.

To clarify what he is alluding to,,,if you step on the gas just a tiny bit harder you won't trigger the skip shift ! It only kicks in when the motor is warmed up,,and very light throttle situations!! The skip shift eliminator is one of the first things I bought!!
Just a quick question from an A4 guy. I guess with the skip shift eliminator installed you could still shift from 1st to 4th manually at low rpms, right?

Yes, that is still possible. The only thing the eliminator does, is simply not FORCE you to shift from 1 to 4. But you can, if you wish, shift 1-3, 1-4, 1-6, whatever you want to do! (except reverse... the reverse lockout is still preserved). Even if it doesn't make sense, you can do it. It gives control of shifting back to the driver.

It is so easy to fix it doesn't even cost any money. CAGS only forces the 1-4 shift if the vehicle speed is between 15 and 20 mph. If you shift to second before 15 it will go right in or if you shift to second after 20 it will go right in. If you are accelerating briskly you can shift into second between 15 and 20 as well. You really don't have an rpm issue unless the rpms drop below 1000. The car can actually pull quite well in 4th at low speed. When running around town I keep the car in 4th as long as the speed is below 30 mph. Above 30 I am in 5th and I drive in 6th once the speed is above 48 mph. Of course some of my shift points may be a little lower than yours as my Z06 has lower gears in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th so I can run a little slower in those gears than a standard C5.

You can disable the auto AC feature. its in the manual.
