so i bought the bypass but called corvettes of houston and they say u gotta fix the problem before u install the bypass meaning id have to take it to the dealer. the recalls obviously failed and it seems everyone has no luck at the dealers but everyo ne on here seems to say just install teh bypass and be problem free yet houston says u gotta fix it first and that just prevents it from happening again.
well random days it gives me that turn the car off and wait 10 seconds and the wheel is locked but after a few times of turning it on and off it unlocks and the msg goes away. about 6 months ago though it had the service steering column lock msg come up yet the the steering never locked so i disconnected the battery and reconnected and it cleared off. so as of now no message is present and steering isnt locked, cuz ive been able to jerk the wheel and do the turn key on off method and its worked. but i know my luck wont last forever
When COH says you have to fix the problem before installing the bypass, they probably just mean that you have to make sure the actuator is in the unlocked position before installing it.
I would still go the extra step of removing the lockplate as required in the last recall. At least then you will not have to worry about the column physically locking. All you have to be concerned with is that the relay is sending the correct signal back to the BCM to prevent fuel cut off.
Electrical problem instead of an electrical AND mechanical problem.
