It sounds like tit could be the pressure relief valve, but in my experience the pressure always dropped gradually as the engine warmed up to near zero and always had good pressure when they were cold. Had this problem on old school pontiacs a couple of times. My feeling is that the block plug at the rear or the barbell shaped seal both at the back of the block could have come out/failed causing the instant pressure loss. Even a spun/destroyed bearing doesn't lose pressure that fast as isn't till the bearing is eaten up for a while.
