yesterday i went to the track and had some trouble manually shifting. my car is an a4. i would put the car in first and when i tried to the burn out it was in 2nd. so i put in drive and then back to 1st and just gave it gas(i didnt use the brake). then when i was stalling in the line the car took off in 2nd again. if im rolling and drop it to 1st it works fine and also when i take off from a stop but if i stall it or do a burn out it will go to 2nd. wat can be causing this?
Some one else may want to chime in but I don't think you should be manually shifting the A4 at the track. Just put it in 3rd and go for it.
You could never shift it faster than the A4 transmission does on its own and with a good tune, correct stall converter and set up (tires, gears etc) you should hook up and do fine.
I know that doesn't answer your question about what might be wrong - sorry.
Sounds to me like the computer is taking over. The OS in GMs these days does a lot to counteract "abuse mode" driving.
I know in my TT truck, the shifter will be ignored in certain circumstances and the computer will shift gears. I can control this with a laptop (e.g. lock it in one gear) but not with the gear selector.
