I do not see why it matters ,Just about every c5 is moded any ways. And every thing comes into play at that speed . O the performance axel has a lower top speed than the regular. Correct me if I am wrong
03 z/06 stock 5th gear 165 and still pullin',ran out of safe usuable road , road was very good been fast in other hi perf. cars before(porsche)what surprised me was how stable car was especially as other fast cars needed wings, spoilers ect and vette did it stock
one more thing to consider if looking for that big top end charge as already stated aero over 200 plays a big part but also HP required squares as speed increases example a 25 hp vw will do 50mph raise that to 100mph need over 100 hp raise to150 mph need over 300 hp So squeaking those last MPH it can and does get expensive
I've always operated with the understanding that General Motors stated a top speed of 165 mph, when the C5 was 1st introduced. Can anyone verify or dispell this?

I believe that the official GM numbers are 174 mph for a manual and 176 mph for an auto with the base gears. This was verified by Motortrend in one of their tests of the C5 when it first came out. The 3.15 Performance axle will reduce top speed but only by a few mph which can easily be made up by more HP. My top speed in the vette has been 183 mph and it was still pulling. I have an auto with the performance axle.

That is the top speed of a vert. As far as I know, the coupe is in the 170's.
because there are guys with turbos, blowers, and spray that can do 200+
i'm looking into getting a Z06 gauge cluster from canada because it goes to 300
Every C5 that was built for export into Canada had 300 on the speedo not just Z06's. That is because Canada is metric and the speedo defaults to metric when you start it up. So the reason ours don't have 200 is because 200 kilometers an hour is only 124 MPH, see need a speedo with 300 on it which converted is 186 MPH well within it max MPH.
I would think the swap would be easy and is should default on start to MPH for you. I would think a dealer would have to access the computer to allow to scale properly for the 300 read out.
Yes in Canada the E/M works to read in MPH and if someone had the mods done to reach speeds in access of 200 MPH it would read it. There is guy in town with a 98 Super charged 402 CID producing 841 RWHP estimated 1014 HP at the fly.
top up and windows up for best aerodynamics.. I like the C2 in the avitar which is quicker or fastest the c5 or c2?
I less worried about aerodynamics than the top blowing off. With the top and windows both up, there will be a lot of pressure inside. Anyone with a vert ever do a top end run at or over 150?

When I drove my vert back to England from the dealer in Germany I got it up to 150 for a short while on the Autobarn. A bit noisy but no problems.
Mine maxes out at 153 in 4th at VIR. I am pretty sure it could break the 180 barrier. It is not stock. Seems like there are geometry issues, like gear ratio, tire size, tranny ratios that determine max speed. Question is, do you have the power to push thru the wind. Anyone know the formula to compute mechanical top speed with M12, 3.42, and 295/30/19 tires?
Mine is completely stock, except for a SLP Loudmouth, and is lowered on stock bolts without cutting the bushings, and it made 181 (292km/h) on the TomTom GPS in one direction, and 179 (288) in the other direction!
While driving the 179, the HUD indicated 190 (306), while driving the 181, I forgot to switch the HUD to mph, and unfortunately, in km/h it cannot show more than 299...
But the needle was a good bit over the 300 mark...
