At last. My whistling 2001 manifold was replaced today and the problem has been solved. What a relief to drive away without that annoying whistle every time I touch the throttle. It took a while for my dealer to get the new manifold in, but it was worth the wait. Just wanted to remind those afflicted with this condition to hang in there and get it fixed under warranty. Chevy knows about this. Also had my rocking seat repaired. It's probably just my imagination, but....I could swear my car pulls better at low RPM now. I know the SOTP meter isn't very objective but it's all I have until I can get to the strip this spring. FYI...the part # is 88894339 and it's about a 4 hour job.
They replaced the manifold with a 2002 manifold. I know exactly how you feel. I was extremely nervous about this, but fortunately my dealer has been very good about warranty work. They have 2 C5 techs and they know I act like an expectant father when I'm there so they treat my car like it was their own. They can tell I take care of my C5. Very few signs they were even in the engine compartment. I'm lucky to have these guys. This is definitely the way to go, if you have confidence in your dealer. Hope you can find a conscientious dealer. Good luck.
Great to hear that they did a great job. I get the whistle in the 2200-2400 RPM range when the outside temp is less than 35 degrees. Since it doesn't happen that often in SE Virginia...I'll live with it for now.
My next trip to the dealer will be in March for it's first yearly safety inspection and there's a tech there that I trust implicitly (only one who ever worked on my C4 for seven years). Of course, with about 2,800 miles on her...she shouldn't have any problems passing...I hope.
Roli, it was sort of hit and miss for the '01s. When they re-designed the intake plenum (because of the Z06) they left a cavity in it that mated well to the throttle body for the F-Body cars...but not for the Vette. The plant found that by mating a throttle body with the plenum would sometimes cause a whistle in some and none in others. In other cases, some would whistle louder than others. I suspect that Wolfster had one of those "matches" that caused it to be louder than others and whistled across most of the RPM range.
