Hi there,
Ive did my search and have a few questions. I have a 99 FRC with a manual trans. I am about to do a transmission fluid flush but am unsure on the type of fluid to get. Some people are saying royal purple but others are saying AMSOIL. Can someone help me out? I am lost hahahhaa...Thanks for your time..
I think you are ok on dex-III as long as it's not synthetic, but I'm not 100% sure, search the site to be sure. For synthetc I'd just get the amsoil to be safe, it shifts a bit better and is safe for the paper rings in early c5's. I know I did a lot of reading on here before changing it out on my '00 coupe.
PM Subdriver. He is our resident Amsoil guy. He can get you fixed up.

Thanks yet again!
Jon,
Answered your PM with an email. FYI, the AMSOIL ATF
(product code ATFQT - you'll need 4 quarts) and the AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (product code ATD1G - you'll need 1 gal) are both recommended by AMSOIL for the C5 manual trannies and for Dexron III-H applications. The Torque Drive (ATD) has no viscosity modifiers and is thus extremely shear stable and I feel it is the better choice for the track, the ATF has some viscosity modifiers and may thus be a better choice for the street. I've used both and really can't tell the difference. I somehow ended up backwards with the ATF in my track car 02 Z06 and the Torque Drive (ATD) in my daily driver 06 CTS-V. I'll swap both later this summer after I'm done moving to the other coast.

No problemo. Heck it was your comments regarding ATD a few months back that got me looking at it for my RPM Level V trans.
I want to change the transmission oil and the oil in the differential. I've got a 2002 manual. What do I need?
Also, through my other searches on this topic, I read that RP may ruin the seals? Is that true? Is the fluid that's in there now (from the factory) synthetic or regular? I'm going to have a shop do the work, but I don't want to have them put the wrong stuff in there.
Additionally, would this be a good time to have them do the anti-venom mod?
Ok. How many quarts? Did you change the oil in your diff too? Did you do this yourself or have a shop do it? If a shop did it, what's the total cost?
Since you have a manual you only need just under 4 quarts in the tranny and ~1.5 for the differential. I just changed mine last week with Amsoil torque drive for the tranny and Amsoil severe gear 75w90 in the rear end.
It's very easy to do yourself. The hardest part is jacking the car up. Always make sure you remove the fill plug first just in case you can't get it out. It will also help to have a breaker bar handy. On the transmission the fill plug is in the middle, half way up on the driver's side and the drain plug is on the back bottom passenger side. The fill plug for the differential is on the rear towards the passenger side and the drain plug is dead center on the bottom just in front of the rear subframe.
