Ok so I was having a hard time getting my rear rotor to come off, and it came then this other thing was there and it has a spring, anyway I couldn't figure out what it was, but I think its the parking brake, how the heck do I put it back right??? No, the brake wasn't on...
well i put it back together without that little spring because I just can't get it back in for the life of me, now I am going to fix it...but how do I do that???? THis is really really frustrating me! Also, how do I know it won't just happen on the other side too? Anyway, I did put the rotor and pads on, so now 3 of my 4 are changed, but this thing is a nightmare.
How does this thing even work? is that some sort of piston that pushes up? and how important is the little spring in there? (the angled wirey thingy)
The spring is important as it centers and holds the shoes in place. If those shoes get out of alignment while the wheel is moving you may have that wheel lock up

I went through the same thing 5 years ago. I ended up leaving all that crap off the hub, and never looked back...I never use the P brake so no great loss.
well i made the "tool" out of a new craftsman screw driver I bought for this purpose, used a dremel to make the notch and slipped it over to the desired spot, used the "tool" and in less than 2 minutes I had it fixed. Put it all back together, torqued to spec of course, and went to the other side (drivers) and the rotor came off with no problem. Went and checked to be sure the brakes are ok, and no noise, no heat, no problems, mission accomplished! Thanks corvetteforum again!

I used a spring hook thru the EXTRA HOLE in the hub to get it on
After fighting 2 days to ALMOST get the spring on I used a spring hook
(tool with a curved end that can grab the spring) and went thru the extra hole in the hub after hooking one side and ALMOST hooking the other side. Before you do this adjust the starwheels on the parking brake so it just touches the inside drum surface on the rear rotor.
Did both sides like this and NOW my PARKING BRAKE will actually STOP THE CAR. Dealer said all the parking brakes are like mine. BS!!!!!!!
Just didn't want to pull the rear rotors off and adjust the starwheels/. BIGHANK
