Default Service Column Lock

My '98 6 speed with 35K has just come up with the "Service Column Lock" error. It had the one of the recalls performed by the previous owner in '03 which
was a reprogram BCM to shut the fuel off. I did manage to free it up by repeatedly jerking on the wheel while turning the key.
I did read the long sticky on the topic but found that very confusing. What are my best options now to fix this problem? What happens if the lock motor is simply unplugged? What about removing the lock motor/pin while keeping the electrical connection? What about another dealer solution (later recall or other?). I did order a CLB as another solution. Any advice would be appreciated....Thanks

Put in the CLB and forget about it.

Not that simple. I installed the column lock and have tried all the tricks and still get the "10 sec" message.

Did you remove the two fuses mentioned with the instructions for a few minutes then reinstall them? I got the "10 sec" message right after I installed my CLB and removed the fuses, put my dash back together during the wait time, then replaced the fuses and it never came back.

Yes, I have done everything possible except jump the relay under the BCM. Which I am going to try as soon as I can learn more about the BCM and relay locations.

If that recall relay is fitted, then jumping it is what you have to do.

Does anyone have a picture of the recall relay that is under the BCM?

Lift the door in the passenger floor. You will find the relay next to the BCM it is an obvious addition. All the information is in the sticky.

Thanks for the replies.

This weekend I was attempting to retrieve the error codes (only turning the key to Acc) and I didn't hear the lock motor run.
Well it flashed "Pull key" and then the "Serv Column Lock". After I managed to free it up, I than proceed to retrieve the codes. To my surprise, the only one
there as related to the seat vertical position. I was expecting many other codes?? What triggers the "pull key and wait 10 secs" error?
Can I just pull the fuse (#23?) that runs the lock motor, after it unlocks as a temp fix until I get the CLB installed? With CLB installed will I still the "pull key"
and fuel shut down?

I got those same messages and the fuel cutoff after my battery ran low. It would still start the car but had low voltage from non use.
I did everything including installment the CLB and nothing worked.
I finally sent my PCM to Corvette of Westchester and Chuck reprogrammed my PCM to bypass the fuel shut off. But I still get the DIC messages.

The CLB is not a cure all. It may help you and it may not.
