Default Service Active Handling

I have a automatic 98 Corvette Convertible that I recently replaced the motor in. Since I have gotten the motor back in the car and running again, I have been getting the "Active Handling Warming Up" message every time and then after a period of time the "service active handling" message will appear. I am not familiar with any of the Active Handling system and would appreciate any help I can get. I would like to know how the system works, where all of the components are located and any suggestions as to what the problem could be. Is it possible that I just missed a connector when putting the motor back in?

Please don't tell me to do a search, because I have already searched the forum and have not found any information that would be useful to my situation. If you know where I can find better information please include a link.

What controls the Active Handling and where is it located? I will check the codes and post them up.

Just a thought, but I had the 1221/22 and 1283 codes when my battery went flat. 1283 is one of the "battery voltage out of range" codes. Assuming your battery is fully charged, try clearing the codes and seeing if they return when you start the car.

Thanks, for the info. I will reset the codes, but I am still trying to figure out why everytime I drive the car it says service active handling. Also, I forget how to clear the DIC codes.

Open the dic codes up and go into manual mode (once you start pressing buttons it does this). Then just simply hit reset once you get to them.

Your Active Handling/TCS module is toast. It either has a bad ground or it needs to be replaced. Either way, it's going to keep throwing the code because the problem isn't fixed. That's why it's going to tell you every time you drive...because every time you drive it's still broken.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I have codes:
TCS C1214 HC (C1214 Sol Valve Relay Contact or Coil CKT Open)
TCS C1226 HC (C1226 LF Excessive Wheel Speed Variation)

Not sure what I'm going to do. Looks like 2 different sensor areas are screwed up.

Is this module the one located on the driver side below the power steering pump?

The 1214 is telling you that the relay is in the open position and that the abs modules needs to be replaced. Very easy to do, use the search function of the forum as I did, and replace it. Contact a forum member named absfixer, you send him you broken one, and he sends you a repaired one guaranteed for life at a fraction of what a new one costs.
the other code is telling you you left front whel sensor has a problem either loose, dirty connection, or the sensor needs to be replaced, also not a big deal to do in you driveway/garage.

If its the abs module you're referring to, yes.

Thanks for all the help guys, but I think I have figured it out. After resetting the codes the only one that has come back on is the C1283 which is the "Excessive time to Center Steering" message. Since I had to disconnect the steering rack to remove the engine the steering wheel has been out of alignment. I am assuming that since the steering wheel is off to the left a bit the Active Handling cannot get a proper reading and by fixing the alignment it should fix my issue.

If you didn't have the excessive time to center the steering before the motor install it could be due to something simpler than the alignment. While the steering shaft was disconnected from the rack could it be possible the steering wheel was turned 360 degrees (one turn) in either direction. When the shaft is disconnected from the rack it has to be kept from turning or the steering sensor gets screwed up. This ain't your Dad's 1960 Chevy where it didn't matter if the steering wheel was turned.

Bill,

I don't think the steering wheel would have been moved that far but if it was, what would need to be done to fix it?
