Sounds cool, but what elements of the HUD pre-defined display were you planning to use to project the V1 display? I think most people that would use this would still want to have full functionality of their tach, speedometer, and turn signals. That doesn't leave much left useful to work with.

:confused:

Wasn't there a post a while back on someone modifying their rearview mirror to work with the V1?
Ya, there is a company that can do this for you, was pretty expensive though, but cool.

The HUD display would be taken over only while the V1 was alarming, and my first pass at the spec is as follows (the spedo would be untouched):

turn signals = front/back arrows
tach = signal strength
gauge level = number of bogies
gauge type (gas/oil/temp) = radar band, if all lit then it's laser

I don't have a good choice yet for a HUD element for the side arrow indicator on the V1, so something arbitrary would have to be chosen. Another concern is if I'm going to be able to use all the HUD elements even if the driver has a HUD option off (i.e. only displaying speed), this is why I might have to tap into the 'raw' HUD control lines, something I'd like to avoid.

It should be possible to display expanded info on the DIC, such as a text display of the radar type, but I'm net yet sure how messages are send from the other controllers to the dash. My hope is that the text of the message is actually sent, rather than a code that dash controller interprets. I fear it's the latter because of the way you can change the language of the DIC messages easily, but I'm hoping for the best.

I have a list of many other features I'd like, one of my favorites is an enhanced window controller that would put the windows down an inch or so when a door or the hatch is opened to make them easier to close (just like a BMW).

Things like a 0-60 timer that kicks on automatically when it sees agressive acceleration, or an 'abuse' detector for when you drop off your car for service would be nice. Put a GPS in the mix and you have some more interesting possibilities too.

Here's a picture of the prototype controller, it's based on the Motorola 68HC11:

Right now it's called the 'C5 HUD Commander'

This would be very cool as long as it allows us to still use the features on the Window Valet! If its going to plug in under the dash, make sure it has some kind of input as well to accept the WV! :cool:

That rearview mirror with the V1 detector panel looks good and is functional. The only thing that makes it seem not right is that it occupies the lower right corner of the rearview mirror. I think that corner is the business end of that piece coz that is where the blindspot of every car is. I would not mind if he moves it to the left corner which i rarely use.

Doesn't seem very useful to me. Doesn't the V1 still need a clear frontal and rear view of the "road" meaning the actual V1 unit is still in plain sight? :)
