Default black wheel paint

painting my wagon wheels gloss black. im going to grind them down to bare metal at some spots where there is curb rash and im not sure if these areas will need primer or not. also, any suggestions on what kind of paint i should use? should i use clear coat after the black? any other tips would be appreciated. thanks.

Definitely repair the curb rash prior to painting. Yes you will need a primer, it depends on what type paint you are using - check with the paint manufacturer for their recommendations. I had my stock Z rims painted at a local body shop for $200. They masked the outer lip and sprayed the spokes and barrel gloss black with final clear coat. Looks great, kind of like the motorsports wheels at a fraction of the cost.

well the thing is that these wagon wheels dont come in black, so there isnt really a manufacturer to check with. i will probably just use spray paint. but my question is what kind of spray paint should i use? if spray paint is a bad idea, then what kind of paint should i get? my dad has a pretty decent paint gun so i might have him do it. i just want to make sure the paint doesnt get destroyed by brake dust. if the clear coat is the wrong kind, it may discolor due to the brake dust. im going to put on some z06 wheels here in a few months. i just dont want to have to suffer 5 months of curbed up stock grey wagon wheels. yuck!
