Stock MAF mod??
I just installed my Vararam and powerduct combo and I am very pleased. This was the first mod I installed on my new C5 (owned it for just over a month). I remember on my C4 I removed the screen from the stock MAF after a conversation with another vette guy while at the track one day. I wanted to do this during my Vararam install but was not sure if this would cause a problem with the much more sophisticated electronics on the C5, I don't want to throw any codes. Is this a common mod and how do you recommend removing the screen, I recall simply using a pair of needle nose pliars and carefully pulling it away from the housing? I have a 2001.

Although it may not give you any immediate issues with the computer, i don't think you're going to gain much if anything at all. The screen is there not to restrict flow, but to smooth it out for a cleaner reading so the computer can make adjustments accordingly. I'd rip the screens off if I got a 5rwhp gain but I'd be shocked if you even get a 0.5hp gain...at the crank!
