Default CLB Does Not Work!!

ok, i did at least an hour and a half of research on here and i dont have an answer. i bought the car a couple weeks ago and this messed up on me a couple days ago. i went to start it, but released the key before it was running, so i tried again and it started. thats when the code showed up, service column lock and pull key and wait 10 seconds. i could move the wheel, but it would cut the fuel off at 1 mph or so. so right then i used my iphone to look on this forum and i read that if you slam the steering wheel back and forth and then try starting it, that might temporarily fix it. so i did and everything was fine. i called the dealership and gave them the last 8 of my vin and they said the recall was done. so i drove home and went to start it again later that day and the code was back and would not go away. so i picked up a clb at corvettes of houston today. went to install it and nothing. it still says the same code and still cuts off fuel. ive checked the grounds, removed fuse #25 for 1 minute, didnt work, did it for 10 minutes, still didnt work. so is this clb designed to fix the fuel cut off? if not then what do i need to do. if it is, then what am i doing wrong. ive also tried cleaning the key. thanks. Dan

I had the same problem....did everything. Added the CLB still did nothing. I sent my PCM to Corvettes of EWestchester and Chuck reprogrammed the 1.5 MPH problem out. Now I just get the codes.

wow, thats a lot of info, good info. and my car is an a4, sorry bout that. i tried clearing the code by pulling fuse #25 for 10 minutes, but i just disconnected the negative battery cable and im waiting for the 10 minutes to be up. so i guess if that doesnt work i will have to find someone to raise the fuel cut off from 1.5 mph to something that i will never reach. i will post the results in a few minutes. thanks for all the good info.

ok, it did not work. i did start it though and my battery volts were at 14.1, but it seems like its taking a little bit longer to start than it should. so should i take the battery out and get it tested and if its below 13 volts should i get a new one. and if a weak battery is the problem and i put a new one in, would that fix the code. and when i take the battery out is it gonna hurt the car if i have it out for an extended amount of time.

Minimum voltage is 12.5 static with the engine off for things to work normally.

You never did say if you completely removed the Harness K kit relay.
If that relay has failed and it is still in the circuit, I think you could still get the fuel shutoff.

Since you already got the car towed it doesn't matter but did you ever clear the code manually using the options keypad?

Yikes. So were the codes still there after reconnecting it? If so then that probably didn't do anything. Hopefully you didn't pay much for the tow because I think clearing the problem codes once installing the CLB would have fixed your issue.

Did you hear the column unlock when you connected the CLB?

Well towing was free through my insurance company. So that's no big deal, but coh is charging 1 hr labor, $94, to diagnose the problem. And if they can't fix it then r gonna charge me $40 to move the fuel cut off up to 255. And I think I might have heard something in the column move, but it wasn't locked to begin with. Coh also said I might have a bad bcm, so they r gonna heck that out as well.

ok, i just got off the phone with them. they said i have a bad bcm and thats $540 and $180 for labor. i asked them what does the bcm control and he said everything inside the car from the odometer, to the radio, to the a/c. so i asked if the only thing that was wrong with the bcm is the service column lock isnt responding and he said yes. so i asked them if they could move the fuel cut off to above 200 mph, he said they have never done it, but they have the capability to. he couldnt promise me anything. since its so late in the day they are going to try and do it first thing in the morning. so is it possible for them to do that for now. and then when i feel like spending $720 i can get it fixed??

oh no, im with you brother. $720 is a waste of money. i just wanted to be sure the raising of the fuel cut off could be done before they tell me they couldnt do it. if they say that i will just take it to someone who can, or call b.s. and try to talk them into doing it. i dont think corvettes of houston would try to do that though, they seem like pretty good guys up there.

I clicked "Disable", then I changed the fuel cut off from 2 mph to 250 mph.

EFI Live:

Using EFI Live go to SYSTEM-THEFT and change G1201 to none and G0801 to no. Doing this will stop the fuel cutoff by setting the speed to 255.

The GM TECH II cannot touch individual values like the fuel shutoff speed.

To the best of my knowledge there is NO OTHER TUNING SOFTWARE that can change that PCM setting.
So does this 'fix' column lock issues with the "disable" option, or is this just for the fuel cut-off part?

that's exactly the info I was looking for. I will call them first thing in the morning and ask them which device they r going to use to try and accomplish this and if it's not efi live or hp tuners then they don't need to bother, and that will save me $40. Thanks a lot.

Since my last post, I have charged the battery and the vette started!!! I still have the service col lock msg but the car was drivable. I can hit reset and the msg goes away until I start the car again, but at least the fuel isnt cutting off so it drives. My column doesnt lock ( for now)....I have had the K harness put in last summer but still looking into putting in the CLB....I found one from Adaptive Performance for $35 that looks just like the one from C of H....anyone had and experience with that unit???? What are the chances my vette will quit on me again???? We are planning a trip to Deadwood SD in aug. and would hate to be broke down on the road. Since my col doesnt lock, maybe I should just get my fuel cutoff set high??? You have all been very helpful, and a BIGGGGG TY to all!!!!

I would do the CLB before you column locks, its $40 insurance for it to never happen again. Why risk it?
