Default Please give me an advice...!?

Hi all you all in the sunny US!
I´m a Swedish guy that finally decided to buy a Corvette C5.
A new one is to expensive for me, so i will buy a used one.
I can choose beween four cars:
- two 1999, one AT and one MN6.
- two 2000 one AT and one MN6.

And here comes my questions... :D

- Is it any advantage to have a 1999 model? I´ve read in this forum that the 98 - 99 cars have a higher fuelpressure...(and more HP.)

- Is it true that the AT is up to 1 sek slower on the 1/4-Mile? In Europe we have 3.14 (?) instead of 2.73.

- Lots of people say that a cheap way of tuning is to buy a
Nox-system (dry), install it and just drive...It seems to be the right choice for my budget but...it seems risky. Do anyone know?

- Exactly HOW much slower is a AT? 0 - 60 and 1/4 Mile?
I would be happy if anyone tried it with a AT with 3.14.

I also need advices what kind of bolt-on parts i can use to get the corvette moving. Not more expensive than 10 - 13k $.
My nightmare is to be whipped by a Audi S4 or a BMW M3.

Thanks to you guys and your neverending source of know-how!

If your goal is BIG horsepower I would say get the one with less miles and get the Automatic. The stock hydrolic (sp?) clutch in the MN6 sucks. Also if you plan on running nitrous I would suggest and Automatic; no missed shifts. It comes down to preference on manual or automatic transmissions. I prefer manual dispite the clutch drawbacks.

Next. Nitrous. I would suggest getting a wet system instead of a dry. Wet systems will produce more rear wheel horsepower. In a dry system you have to rely on the computer to add fuel. I prefer to add it the old fashion way. Spray it with a fogger. Just my .02...

Good luck on your purchase

Hi again!
Thanks for the fast replies!
I must correct my last post.
I have about 1000 - 1300 $ for bolt-ons. Not 10000-13000.

Hello Buckmaster.

I´ve read everything about TC:s i could get my hands on, Yank, vigilante and so on, but it is difficult for a novice to get the "big picture".

What is stallrate? I haven´t found an answer on that yet.
How do they affect my average driving, for example a Yank 2800?
Will the fuelconsumption go sky high due to the high Rpm:s?

By the way, Sweden = 4,79 $/Gallon
:cry

Big choice! Put the very slight differences in speed of the Auto versus Standard tranny behind you.

That all depends on the driver! Botton Line:

Do you like to drive a standard? If you do not have to drive heavy traffic daily, go with the standard. LOTS more fun!

HOWEVER. if you do not like to shift, or drive in traffic more than 30 minutes a day, CONSIDER the auto, it is a EASY choice and only some people will give you a hard time...

Wow!
A 1000 thanks for your answer! That saved me hours of searching on the net.

I think my humble "start-kit" will be: 3:15 Differential (stock), K&N Intake, MAF, Some aftermarket exhaust, and a 2400-2800 TC. I originally planned to buy Long tube headers, but i´ll save that until later due to the costs/gain ratio.. = Much $, not so much Hp......
Is that an Ok combination? Do you think i can keep up with a stock MN6?

I´m still curious of Nitrous, but i´m afraid a 100 dry-shot will kill the engine..
(old prejudice perhaps?)

I will pick up my car in Germany next week, it will be a 2500-mile trip with trailer
A Torch-red 2000 Coupe AT. All options! :D
