Default Driver's window will not move

I took the door panel off on the driver's side to try to fix the window and noticed the black box 'ticks' when I touch the window switch. So I checked on eBay for them and there are several versions to choose from. Mine is a '98 with the seat and mirror memory functions. Does anybody know the part number that I should look for so that I get the correct one? The white decal with the numbers on it is not on mine. Or is that black box even the problem?

If you can hear the relay in the door control module click, then the motor is getting power and is probably just stuck.

Try tapping on the motor housing while pushing the down or up button.
If you cannot unstick the motor, you may need to replace the window regulator assembly or have it rebuilt. Since you have the door panel off, inspect the drive cables to make sure they are not frayed and causing the window to hang up.

Sounds like the window is stuck in the up position. If you get it to work, you might try bumping the window down a fraction of an inch from the full up position to unload the motor and drive gears and reduce the chance it will stick again. Since the glass stops when the motor jams it up against the stops (no limit switches), I think the gears wear and the motor just gets stuck.

Still nothing. Tried removing motor, box, and rails. Motor was so hot I had to remove it with gloves. After re-installing everything...nothing. Everything is still the same. With the little black box still ticking when I touch the switch.

Sounds like your motor is frozen. The heat in the motor is an indication that 1 it is locked up and 2 that it is getting hot and ground applied to it, telling it to turn. That should eliminate the search for a new box and begin the search for a new motor or a possible attempt to un-freeze it.

How did you try to move the motor? Did you tap on the motor housing with the button down?
You might try removing just the can over the motor armature without pulling out the rotor and drive gear and see if you can turn the rotor by hand to free it up. With the can off, you can also check the brushes to see if they are in good condition or need cleaning.
If the motor stays hot, maybe the auto down is stuck and you need to push the up button to turn it off. You probably need to wait until the motor cools to do any testing.

pull the plug end from the window motor and put one lead from a multi meeter in each terminal then push the window switch you should have battery voltage either way, polarity will just switch. you likely have bad contact in the relay you hear clicking in the black box. you can get by with a test light if you dont have a d.v.o.m.

I would think if the motor is heating up, it is getting power.

I have seen comments from other members that think that sometimes the auto down feature does not release the relay automatically, and can cause the motor to overheat. If I trigger the auto feature, I make sure to hit the up button to make sure it releases.

I'm not saying your wrong but this is what I do for a living and testing is always better than guessing.
if you are going to work on electrical you need a multi meeter and learn how to use it
you can buy one for under 20 bucks it is an amazing tool.

What others have posted up on the board with regards to this problem was to hold the window down button and slam the door shut(of course while the key is on the "on" position). I know it sounds medieval but it works.

I had this problem with the passenger side door and the remedy was to do the above.....I just followed everyone's recommendation from here and it worked.
