I do not know the difference between short/long headers in hp but headers make a big difference on a head/cam modified, 383 stroker or a 427 C5R engine. I've seen figures in the 10hp area on a stock engine as said before in this post so I would start with other mods if you have a stock engine.

Re: Long /Short Tubes (seanr)
Go long tube, you will see better gains, really the only downsides of long tubes are that they are more expensive to put in, and they hang a little lower (should not be a problem).
If you want to do it yourself, get shorties. My B&B's dropped right in from the top and bolted up easily. No cutting or welding. Nice way to spend a Spring mod-day. Max hp gain about 10-ish. Wouldn't spend more that $500 though for ceramic coated headers though unless you're really going to Stage 2 on the heads and cam.
For max hp and max cost go with LT headers. But be prepared to go to a shop that can weld them up at the cats or other creative connection methods. Max hp gain 10-20.
I don't regret doing LT headers, but I did expect more HP!
With an X pipe and LT headers I got 12.4 rwhp and 16.1 rwt
These are dyno #'s taken in the winter, which i'm investigating because of the high correction factor. I've dyno'd twice this winter and have had a cf of .95 each time. but in the summer with 80 degree temps we get a cf of 100.
So maybe the real gain was more like 16 and 20. I think the headers allow for some tuning gains and would be a must with heads/cam.
From what I have seen, our TTS Long Tube customers have all gained 15rwhp or more. One of them actually gained 23rwhp with the install of TTS Long Tube headers. Perhaps the smaller diamter tubes of the TTS are better for a stock displacement, stock head/cam car??? :D
