How do you go about re-synching the odometer on the Instrument Panel with the mileage stored in the PCM?
I'm working on retrofitting a 2000 cluster with HUD to my 1997, and I want the mileage shown on the gauge panel to be accurate. Everything else is working, and the HUD display looks great, but the mileage shown is not correct. I haven't driven it since the upgrade (it's winter here in Utah) -- does it just correct itself as you drive, or is there a procedure to synch the IPC to the PCM? The Service Manual doesn't seem to mention anything about this.
I'm hoping someone here can answer, 'cause I know the dealer will either give me the "deer in the headlights" stare, or say "we have to send it to GM" or some such nonsense.
A dealership can not reprogram the guage cluster. There could be mileage and warranty issues if there allwed to do so. It does have to be sent off to GM to be recalibrated.
I have heard one other driver doing this task and he had to go through hoops and huddles with the dealer. The dealers are the only company that can comlete this task so you will not have any negative actions to your regristraion through the DMV. Good luck.
