Default lights wont go down after HID install

Ok I searched around and this seems odd:

I was installing my HIDS, and instead of leaving the lights on, I manually opened them with the motor assembly.

Installed HIDS, tested, all was well. Installed the all 4 on (all 4 headlights) with a relay disconnected the battery hooked that up, tested that. All was well. I moved to the drivers side, finished that up, got creative on mounting them under the headlight covers themselves.

Closed the lights, the went down about 1/4 inch then stopped. So I thought something was hanging up, long story short, after EVERYTHING excpet the bulbs were removed, lights still wont go down. I turn them down manually, NOTHING hits them, everything seems great. any clues, am I missing a procedure, process, etc? this is my first c5 vette.

Try turning on the high beams then click to the closed position. If they go down you have several choices on how to proceed.

Two choices:

Send a PM to this forum vendor and add a resistor for @ $25. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/memb...onathan_w.html

Pick up a single side marker light from any parts store and wire into one low beam for @ $5.00. Make sure you do not use an LED side marker, it won't work.

I used the side marker and tapped into both the positive and negative wires on the low voltage lead from the OEM harness to the ballast. That way I could just sticky tape the marker light to mount it and not worry about grounding it.

Either will accomplish the same thing but the "purists" scoff at the side marker fix.

I'd email him and see what he suggests. From what I've heard the resistor setup works well. He may have run into this before.

The inline resistor should help. All HIDs light up and resistor is inline that should show it is ok.

Hold on a minute. You said going to brights let the doors close. That should not work with the HIDs there too. I bet the inline resistor is on the high beam wire and not the low beam wire. Move it to the low and it should work.

One idea is problems with very low battery. Low voltage will cause the computer to do unusual things sometimes. And the HIDs will drain the battery quickly with the engine off. Start the car and drive it around to charge the battery and then see if it works.

I verified the resistor is inline with the low beams. And this is after the car runs, car is seeing ~14 volts.

I've been having a few issues with this round of resistors. My normal troubleshooting hasn't been working. Just try the steps I PMd you and let me know. This resistor might be off my product list very soon.

is it so much of a problem to turn the hi beams on before turning the off switch? I've been doing it it for two years and have not shown any ill effects yet.

Not really but it does annoy some people.

Kinda like the TPS error message if you don't have them installed.

You would be surprised at how big of a deal this is to some people (not talking about Chet).

He paid for a product (from me) that should help with this. I'm just trying to figure out what the deal is with these things now.

If you don't mind then that is fine for you. I like to use the twilight sentinel and that will not work without the fix.

Kudos to Jonathan for being the first to point out it should work because he paid for something that works. And it will be fixed. I have had great interactions with JWMotoring and support them completely. Decent prices, no gouge on shipping (Some places it is like "Oh good price, but wait $23.00 for shipping and handling!") , fast shipping, problems fixed.

I never knew the resistor fixed the issue with the twilight mode. Does it?

Yea, without it the lights come on and go up but don't go down. With the resistor it works like normal.
