Default Brake package recommendations Wanted

If you have purchased and used a brake package (Calipers, pads, rotors, etc.) and have been impressed by the performance, please share your recommendation below.

if you have come up with your own combination that works great - tell me about it.

Please warn me about the bad ones to avoid also!

My priorities:
Low Dust
Good from 125mph and below.
Sometimes a little hard street use (no tracks).

Thanks in advance, tsts

For these requirement the stock braking system is more than adequate. Put a set of C5 Z06 pads on there, you will be surprised.

Had Z06 pads before, too much dust (but I did like the stopping ability).

Wilwood SL-6 with Polymatrix Q pads. Q stands for quiet, and SL-6 stands for 6 pistons !!! I like mine a lot, had them since 2006.

Thats the trade off, dust comes with an aggressive pad no real way around it. The stock system is good enough for road racing at a pretty high level. They really are very good. After market brake systems for a non-track care are only for bling, and even a lot of track cars. You have to be a very fast and dedicated road racer to really need to change the brake system. And, usually that is for heat dissipation and not stopping power.

Willwood makes some great pads, but I only have experience with their track only pads.

If you don't like the dust with the z06 pads (and I don't like dust either) then look for a ceramic pad, the initial bite will not be as aggressive but they can still lock up your tires. I did a few HPDE days, when I was first learning, with a ceramic pad and they did OK. Its only when you go really fast do you need a track pad, and again its because of the heat and not stopping power.

Braided stainless steel brake lines are a really good investment, they will add to the pedal feel. The stock lines will flex a little, and the stainless steel lines will not and so give a firm feel to the brakes.

That and flush your fluid.

HAWK HPS pads are GREAT. Little dust and stop better than ZO6 pads.

tsts,
I installed new rotors and pads at the same time. I used the Hawk Ceramic pads along with Cryostop plain rotors. I didn't want to get the drilled or slotted because of the autocrossing that I do. If I were to just use my Z for the road I would have done a cross/slotted rotor. There is a lot of talk about brakes and many opinions on brake setups. I researched for a while and them made my decision. I love my setup and it work great on the street and on the track with little dust. Just my 2 cents.

tsts, I would look at are street pad low dust 100% non crossive wont harm your wheels or paint. Will rinse write off with a hose. Check dba rotors they work good with our compounds.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

My ride is 1999 FRC. Last winter I installed C5 Z06 Calipers, front and rear Baer 2 piece EradiSpeed Cross-drilled and Slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads front and rear. The package also included 2 pints of Motul RBF 600 brake fluid and 4 DOT approved blaided stainless brake lines. The 2 pc. rotors measure 13" in the front and 14" in the rear. Those rear rotors REALLY fill up the wheel cavity and look SO GOOD!!After bedding in the pads and rotors (very essential) there is little to no brake dust. Despite the rear rotors measuring 14", stock wheels will fit but it is tight. Your wheel weights will HAVE to be placed on the inner part of the wheel so your calipers will not knock them off. I got my brake package, minus the C5 Z06 calipers, from West Coast Corvettes 1-888-737-8388. They were good people to deal with and I would do my brake switch again without any hesitation. Pricing without calipers was right at $1300.00. Good luck with your chioce.

here's my 3¢...went through 2 sets of gm ceramic pads, gm semi metallic and 2 sets of gm drilled and slotted rotors...just recently installed powerslot rotors by centric on the front and centric blank rotors on the rear both front and rear came with centers factory painted...used hawk hps pads and have stainless lines and used ate blue racing dot4 brake fluid...checked all rotor mounted to the hubs for run out and it was "0"! So far, I am very happy with this combination...the dust is a little more than the gm ceramics bot not that bad...once a wk I wipe my wheels down with a moist sponge and that's it...hope this helps u...Renee
