Default cam ?'s

I'm getting a new cam shortly and am looking for a lumpy idle. I have an a4 with stock heads. I was going to go with the b1 but am looking for more options. Someone suggested a 222/222, 222/230, or 218/224 all with 114 lobe seperation. I dont know that much about cams and was wondering what makes the idle lumpier. The first no. is the intake duration and the second no. is the exhause right? But what does this mean in terms of idle. I was also told that I would need programing with the first 2 cam choices I have listed. I already have the powerloader so could this be covered by a reprogram by steve, if so I take it I would have to have the powerloader back before I drive the car home from the cam swap. Also how will these diffrent cams effect driveability as its pretty much a daily driver and only used to street race(havent taken it to the trach yet). Please help me out with any info that can be given. Thank you, muchly appreciated.

If you change the cam, you will not be able to drive it home. The car will die every time you stop. I had to drill a hole in the throttle body and it still dies when cold. Yes, you will need to have the powerloader upgraded. Your idle will have to be raised to around 850, your shift points should be readjusted, my rev limiter is already set at 6600, I think that is O.K. If you are going to change the cam, get the Powerloader adjusted first.

Awaiting Steve Cole to tune my car as we write!
I am not a cam guru, you can find a lot of info by doing a search on http://lS1.com

:seeya I'm in the same boat as you.My quest for the perfect cam is coming to a close after much research and due diligence with vendors and experienced tuners. I'm leaning towards the compcams 216/220-525/532-114

I found these sites chock full of good relative information, check 'em out.

You could also check out the CF search engine for my username and look for my post on cam .wav files .I did get a few great sounding cams.

Good Luck:D

The Idaho Corvette Page has an article "Hib Halverson Looks at the LS6 - In Depth." On the 4th page, he points out that the LS1 intake port flow stalls with valve lift above about 11 mm (.433"). This says that the LS1 head really won't flow any better with higher lift on the intake vale. It may be that "performance" cams generate more power due to longer duration rather than to increased lift (at least on the intake side). Since there is no mention in the article about the effects of increased lift on the flow of the exhaust port, the exhaust port may benefit from increased lift.
