I installed my cross-drilled Dura-Stop rotors myself this past weekend and am now experiencing the center rusting near the hub of the rotors. I have been offered the solutions of gunblueing, high-temp Rustoleum paint and powder coating.
Although, I am trying hard to convince myself that I don't have to go through the hassle of eventually taking them off and getting them powder coated, I am seeking advice on anyone's experience as to alternative solutions.
I used to use something called Calyx Manifold Dressing on my C4 engine components, but that was over 8 years ago. If I can locate it or something similar, I feel that this might prove worthy of trying.
I would appreciate any assistance as to alternate long-term methods of preventing this rusting.
I just got my rotors back today from a plating company. I had them Zinc plated as some of the manufactures do. They are the GM Dura-stop drilled and slotted. That should keep them from rusting. I took them in yesterday morning and they were done by noon today.
Use a round wire brush attachment in a drill, clean the rust off the rotor, and in my case I cleaned the back side of the rotors and the hub, cleaned well with brake cleaner, then painted with "John Deere Muffler Black" . That is a super quality satin black high temp paint that lasts forever(looking good after 4 years on my 92, just did the Z06 as I was unhappy that the factory didn't paint the actual part that the wheel rests on. IF you can get your wife gone for the day, after you paint them, bake'em in the oven at 250 for an hour, that really sets the paint up!
I really do not understand GM, on the Vette they paint "part" of the rotor, on my boys GTP Gran Prix, the whole rotor is coated with a zinc/galvanize like coating that looks new after 89k miles.
Thanx to all for the replies, but has anyone tried a product called or similar to Calyx manifold Dressing? It was a "metal flak" paste that you applied by finger and polished afterwards.
Has anyone used gunblueing (something along the lines of "KC Birchwood")?
LT1GMC: Where can I get "John Deere Muffler Black?" Local Lawnmower place?
I would like to post pics of the "rusty rotors" and am interested in recommendations for a free image hosting site?

I saw a similar product in either Eickler's or MidAmerica catalogs
