This tunning we're talking about with cams/head,cam upgrades, can it be done by steve with the powerloader in 1 try or is it something that usually takes longer?
As long as the cam is not a real agressive one that Steve has never dealt with before, it shouldnt be a problem. I know he has teh 21X/22X 114 cams down to pretty much a science.
If I go with the "Power Loader" for a gear and tc change
and later in life decide to go with MTI's or ARE's Heads/Cam Stage II
set-up will i have to resend the Power Loader back for retuning or will
these "Tuners" Set- up my computer for the new set-up w/ the Dyno..
and leave the Power Loader as is
Oh and by the way this is for a 2002 C5 A4
Any Help would be greatly appreciated  :seeya
yea, can ARE do the tunning while on the dyno without messing up the powerloader?
When ARE gets LS1Edit in the next month or so, then they will be able to load your Powerloader program into their computer, make the necessary changes to it for heads/cam and then reload it back onto your computer.
As of right now, they are not able to do this. If you get your car's PCM tuned, they would be using a completely different PCM program than your Powerloader. However, their PCM program would contain many of the same changes the Powerloader makes to your car.
Thanks Matt for your insights, so basically getting the powler loader would be a waste to get if you plan on getting h/c installed unless you need it for the gears and tc, only then it would be worth it until you bought a h/c then it would be junk?? Am I getting this right?
If so the best thing would to get the gears, tc, heads and cam all at once, have the tuner program your pcm for each of these settings and dont worry about the powerloader and save yourself $500.00 in the meantime
Just remember, you can also get the Powerloader reprogrammed for $75 with the necessary changes for a heads/cam package. As long as you are not going too extreme with the camshaft, Steve Cole should not have a problem programming your PCM perfectly on the first try. If you are going with a high lift and high duration camshaft that he has not had a chance to work with before, it may take a few revisions to get your car running perfectly.
I think the Powerloader is definitely the best for A4 cars because of how it manages the automatic transmission. I don't think too many programmers or tuners have done the r&d on shift points, shift firmness and torque management that Steve Cole has.
LS1-Edit is great, but it is not something that you just make a few quick adjustments and you are on your way. The charts are pretty in-depth and you could spend hours and hours of playing around to just get your shift firmness the way you want it so that you get the right combination of drivability and performance.
>Hey Matt, why does Nick (ARE) want to go with Superchips with all his H/C packages? This is what I have in the works, but I'm confused as to who is supposed to be best. Will I be able to tweak the air/fuel and other settings for different track conditions or will I be completely locked out of both? Can you still use a maft?
Nick has worked closely with Superchips over the past year or two in developing PCM programs that work great with his engine and head/cam packages. I actually run Superchips programming on my own car with my heads/cam package and it works great.
There is definitley nothing wrong with Superchips programming and they have wrote the programs for all of ARE's fast LS1 cars out there.
You can definitely still use a MAFT to fine tune your a/f ratios with Superchips programming. Superchips programming is no different in method than any of the other PCM programmers.
ARE should have LS1-edit within the next month or so and will be doing their PCM programming in house from then on.
