You're not describing the conditions well enough. Engine temp when first cranked? AC on or off when first cranked? Engine temp when fan goes off? AC on or off when fan goes off? What happens with the passenger fan when it goes off?

We need these details to help. If you are vague then we can only give a vague response. Your description makes it sound like you never looked at the fans until it was up in the 235 degree range.

I didn't post before, but when it is hot and you idle you will need the high fan speed to keep the temperature down. So, start the car when it is cool and turn the AC on and watch to see if both fans run at low speed when the temp hits 185? If both run in low, it could also be the ground on the F11 from the fuse box. That ground is only used for the left fan in high speed.

Did you swap both relays like I posted?

Basically, start the car cold with the AC on and observe what happens between 185 and 235 degrees. Get us the details of what you see.

Hey Bill, wouldn't the drivers side fan be the left cooling fan.

sorry...it did it when i just got back from driving around...when restarted the temp was 210-220deg , AC on, fan turns off almost imediatly...conditons when turns off are the same as startup....no change in passenger fan (but you can tell it has high and low speed by sound from listening to it prior)...i did swap the relays that had the same part number listed on them...the one that had a different number has been untuched...thanks again, lots of good help will give that a shot

I bet the coolingfan3 relay is different than the other relays? I didn't think about it before but it has a closed contact the other relays do not. It could very easily be this relay.

You will do the more detailed troubleshooting posting the details of what you observe later?

You post that the passenger side fan has high and low speeds. Well, this isn't really possible unless the drivers side fan is working in low speed as well. They both need to run to actually divide the 12V is half so each gets 6V. Take a closer look at this and post back what is really going on.
