Ok so a lil background. A few weeks ago I was in Austin with my AC's ext thermometer saying 110 degrees. After parking I smelt the stuff, and about a cup of fluid was on the ground below my car. Temp was running a little above 230 after that but would go down while driving on the freeway. Added more 50/50 dexcool and it just leaked out again.
Drove back down to Corpus and everything was fine until a couple days ago when it all started over again. On the drive to work it started getting hot again. After getting home I checked and my entire reservoir was empty.
Here's where it's coming from. Top left of the radiator.
A crack maybe? What should be my steps of fixing before a new radiator?
When the plastic end caps crack, there is really no good way to repair them. You can replace the end tank, but it is crimped on with a gasket and it would probably require you to take it to a radiator repair shop.
If one tank cracked, the other one may be close to end of life also, so I would just replace the radiator.
Save yourself some grief later.
Yeah I was afraid of that. So what radiator should I go with? I may be interested in supercharging this beast in a year or two, and need extra cooling for these crazy South Texas temps.
My radiator broke in the same place, albeit I hit a dead dog with the car on that side. Was quoted $136 per tank to R&R. Not worth it IMO. New aftermarket online is $122 shipped.
For a full aluminum one or plastic on the sides? And where at? I've been searching the For Sale forum and now I can't decide if I want to spend under $100 for a replacement or around $400 for a used upgraded one.
