PISTON SLAP SOUND
THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF TALK OF PISTON SLAP ON C-5'S ON THE FORUM. I HAVE ASKED WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE, BUT NO ONE HAS REPLIED. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN DESCRIBE THE SOUND AND ANY OTHER DESCRIPTIONS OF PISTON SLAP.

My cold engine sounded like a diesel engine on acceleration. After a few minutes to get up to temp, no problem.
After a year of high rev'in and hitting the rev limiter on several occassions, no more diesel noise....gone!

Same with me, from inside the car it sounds like a diesel. From outside the car it sounds more like a tapping or clipking. There have been posts from people who started checking with a stethascope, and discovered that the noise was not coming from the block (piston slap) but from some accessory or pump. Since the noise on mine does not begin until a minute or two after the engine starts, I suspect that mine may also be something different.
In any event, it does not seem to be causing mechanical problems, just that owners are getting ulcers from worrying about it.
