I want to change the color of my calipers but can't get heat resistant paint to match the color of my car.
Do I need to paint them with heat resistant paint?

Duplicolor engine enamel will hold up.Think about it,there are rubber parts and liquid inside the caliper castings, they don't get hot enough to burn off paint under normal conditions.
My friend was having trouble finding the color he wanted in heat resistant paint. He later decided to get high degree primer and do a few coats of that, followed by a couple coats of the NON heat resistant color paint he wanted to use, and than he topped it off with a couple coats of high degree clear coat. Its been close to a year and the calipers have held up perfectly with no issues. Hope that helps!
The original red finish is also pretty tough when it comes to brake fluid, which is usually a pretty amazing paint stripper. Ordinary paint will probably lift right off if you get brake fluid on it...like when you bleed the brakes. I bleed my brakes every year, and this year I didnt tighten one of my bleeders tight enough, and it started to "weep". The caliper was covered before I noticed. The caliper coating was unscathed, but the paint on the wheel bubbled right off. Had to get the the wheel re-finished for $150. Expensive mistake

Absolutely NOT.
I've used run of the mill rust paint on calipers on many cars over the years with tremendous success.
I've NEVER had paint flake off or boil off or anything.
The heat is enough to bake the paint on just right. it becomes very durable and looks great.
If i showed you my calipers and told you how much it cost me to paint them, you'd think I was you.
Spend all you want...but a can of rustoleum or tremclad will work perfectly well.
