Alternator Whistle

Can anyone tell me the service bulletin for the whistle in the alternator? Dealer says its in the smog pump and that its natural to all corrvettes. :bs

I had the whistle in my alternator, and the dealer replaced it. Much better. Dealer said there was a preliminary TSB?

If the noise you're hearing is in the A.I.R. pump, as your dealer indicates, then it should only be noticible for a few minutes at start up. How long the pump runs is dependent on the coolant temp.

I'd like to know this too. Mine has the same whistle and it is definitely the alternator(confirmed with stethoscope).

My 1999 C5 coupe with 23,000 miles is on its third alternator.

The A.I.R. pump is electric...all you need to do is find and pull the fuse and see if it still happens. :yesnod:

WENT TO DEALER AND WITH G.M. REP PRESENT THEY CONFIRMED NOISE FROM ALTERNATOR . THEY OFFERED TO PUT IN NEW ALTERNATOR FROM A 2002,BUT IT HAD THE SAME NOISE. WAITING FOR G.M. REP TO GET BACK WITH FIX. I HAVE A 2001 CONVERTIBLE AND OTHER THAN THIS NOISE THE CAR IS GREAT. :cheers:
