Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

If equipped, install the automatic transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator. Tighten
Tighten the cooler lines to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

The fan(s) assembly is held captive in four positions, and yes it needs to slide up to release. First, you need to be sure wiring harness is disconnected..clamps, connectors, etc. Also helps to have the front sway bar dropped down for more clearance.

Had the same problem with the plastic tank cracking. About to install a used oem radiator. Would yall consider this a 1 man job that can be done in the driveway? Should I get an extra hand or do I need a lift for those step by step instructions? Any pic by pic or video instructions?!

Thanks
Ryan

You do need to get the front end up, the front wheels maybe a few inches off the ground at least. The fans and shroud can be turned as they clear the radiator support/engine cradle as it goes out the bottom. So, you need maybe a little more than half the height of the fan schroud high at the engine cradle. Higher will make it easier to remove, but may make it hard to reach the electrical connectors. The radiator its self goes out the top.

Pics would be hard to show where the electrical connectors are at. And they are one of the PIA things about the install. A digital camera is a great tool for recording how the stock wiring and tubing where routed before you start taking things apart

Very much a one man job. You will be surprised at how little actually holds the radiator in place...

Here is my spin on it:
Jack up the front of the car and support with good jack stands and wheel chocks. I’m just guessing but have the engine cradle maybe a little more than a foot off of the ground.

Drop the front sway bar by removing the bolts that hold it to the front cross member. 4 - 15mm's?

Remove the air bridge.

Remove the plastic shroud over the top of the radiator, take some pics of how it actually sits on the rad and rad support. Along with how the lines around it are routed. 4 10mm bolts hold it in place.

Disconnect the fans, and the wiring harness connectors to the shroud, a thin flat blade driver works OK. Take some photos of how the harness is routed. This is kind of a PIA as there is not a lot of room to work on the connectors.

Disconnect the hoses to the rad, there are 4. Use pliers that are made for the job, it will be easier. Also, if you have an auto trans, disconnect the trans cooler lines.

Push up on the fan shroud, there are 4 tabs on the radiator that hold it in position. Lift up like and inch then move it away from the rad. Drop it out the bottom.

The AC condenser is the same, just on the front side of the rad.

Pull the rad up and out of the Vette. Like it states above, watch out for the wiring harness and hoses. If you left any hoses on the rad they will catch on everything. And the ones left in place will as well. A second person could help with them, but that is about all.

The install is just the reverse.

Fill the over flow tank, start the Vette and let it get to operating temp, like 190. And then shut it down and let it cool. Top off the over flow tank. You may need to do this more than once.

If you don't route the wiring and hoses correctly then it will be a PIA. Even then it is kind of a hassel.

Started off slow trying to just figure out how to get the drain plug out(after I stripped it) then a neighbor saw and helped out. As for how many people needed for the job: It's a 3 man job(one on each side of the car, one under) to get that damn thing out. I did it with 2, which was difficult. Single-handedly doing this would have been impossible without previous experience and removing more parts rather than pushing them forward/backward.

I only did this myself to learn about the car more. Next time though, in any car, I'll be taking it to a shop.

Pulled radiator for heads/cam swap. A little help getting the radiator out the top would have been nice but otherwise not too difficult a job for one man.
