After two weeks it can be agreed that the Random X and cats assembly makes the Corsa Indys sound a little more refined. Much less backfire and a sound that proclaims "well tuned sports car" rather than "snarling circle track bully." Quieter in sixth gear cruise as well, so be aware if you want that BTTW sound with all the popping and gurgling, this aint it. Added benefit: Exhaust STOPPED smelling like extreme rotten eggs and now is the normal sulfurous smell of properly operating cats. Also, the exhaust tips aren't coated in soot any longer. The factory cats must have been spoiled somehow and deceiving the rear o2 sensors. And most important of all, the car pulls noticeably stronger from 3500 on up and still screams like a banshee at WOT. The cleaner burning probably indicates better mixture control which undoubtedly adds to the SOTP improvement but the 2.75" Random assembly is certainly the main source of improvement. Bottom line is that my 98 seems like a new car. Oh yeah, only other mod is a Donaldson so "before and after" isn't confused by lots of other add-ons. I strongly recommend the Random X-Pipe with cats and Corsa Indy combo. Best of all worlds.
Do you have a link to there sight? I know they are local for me, but I would like to research this a little more. Also, how much did this set-up cost you if you don't mind me asking?
http://www.randomtechnology.com They don't sell direct to the public that I can tell. $696 from http://www.moreperformanceinc.com Comes without clamps, bolts or gaskets. Gaskets from dealer and bolts from Home Depot. For clamps I used Donaldson 2.75" preformed stainless band clamps from Air Flow Systems, Inc. Cat assembly and xpipe assembly slip together. The band clamps make it possible to hold and seal the slip joints without crushing the pipes like a regular muffler clamp and they look super smooth. Also coated the inside of the larger diameter slip joint with Super Copper Hi Temp silicone gasket maker to cover my bets. Good to 700 degrees. Also put it sparingly on the O2 sensor threads. Watch the wire leads for the sensors. The wire for the left sensor crosses over to the right side of the car and vice versa. Wires run easier that way but can be confusing if you don't pay attention during disassembly. Bought the Corsas quite some time ago. About $795 as I remember. Gotta save my dough between mods.
