Posted this in General but here we go again. So about three weeks ago I was on a run when i grabbed second ( in an auto ) when I thought I got third. Hit the rev limitor and now I got some oil under my rear. Is it hopefuly some blow by out the vent or did I jack somethinething up? I know I need to get under it just want to know what to look for. Thanks bros for the feedback

My bet is that the leak is unrelated to the downshift and is the standard fare, leaky rear end that many of us have had to repair. If it's not making any unusual noises, I would wipe it down and see if you can isolate the source of the leak after your next drive. The usual suspect is the left side cover on the rear end.

Are you sure this is gear oil and not transmission fluid?

I did it on the lift in my garage in about 3 1/2 hours with some help from a friend. It is somewhat labor intensive as you have to remove the exhaust and some of the suspension to get at it. You replace the axle bearing seals and use a sealer on the left side cover of the rear end. There is a tutorial in this section that provides step by step instructions.
If you are usure of doing it yourself, make sure you find a COMPETENT mechanic that has succesfully performed this repair on C5's. There are many horror stories of 2 and 3 failed attempts by GM d ealership "mechanics".
Obviously you will have to determine if you even need the fix. The leaks are usually evident after sustained highway driving. You will see leaks down onto your exhaust and suspension on the left side, to the rear of the pumpkin. Good luck
Yea that is where it is leaking. Driver side got some on the exhaust and a little on suspension. Thought maybe the hard driving had something to do with it but I guess it just decided to leak. Definitely oil and not tranny fluid. And that is what I was afraid of having the dealer do the work. Better off doing it yourself. Thanks again for the good info.
I had a small puddle under my diff a year ago-- checked the level a few times, never was low, I think the vent on the left side "vents" when driven hard. I'm not going to do anything about mine unless something else happens......
