Default Active handling problem (maybe)

Occasionally when I am driving along, i will feel the brakes kick in on the rear wheels, sometimes is just a quick surge of the brakes. sometimes the car will step to one side or the other a tiny bit. is this an ECBM issue or something else? Havent pulled codes yet but i fear there may be a few because i also get the service active handling/traction control messages too.

Related?

Without codes, you re just guessing, wasting time. Checking the codes is really easy to do.

Default how to check codes

with the key in the on position, but the engine not running
push and release the reset button until all messages cleared
next push and HOLD button #4
next push and release button #1 four times while holding button #4
When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display. The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem. When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gages" to go forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M".
If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press .""reset

Pretty damn scary! Good luck in finding the cause!

my traction control codes are:

C 1281 H Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction
C 1287 H Steering Sensor Rate Malfunction

So it appears that the steering sensor is at fault.

Correct?

Would that be the cause of the above problem and also the Service traction control/active handling warning i occasionally get?

It could be the sensor or something as simple as a proper wheel alignment.

That would be what I'd be looking at. Since the AH uses input from this it would be highly suspect.

Any way to confirm that it is the steering sensor besides the codes?
