Default Try to fuel up,my Vette develops a "Headache"

Sometimes when attempting to fuel up the old girl develops a "headache" and won't let me put any gas into her the pump keeps clicking off like its full, sometimes if I fool around with it,pull pump nozzle half way out, turn nozzle upside down but when this happens I always must pump real slow but go to same station same pump next day then OK. happens about every 10 fill ups. Had this prob since new 2003 z/06 any ideas anybody???

No problem with my vette but the Jeep will give me fits every so often. Most of the time its one particular pump that is more sensitive than the others so I just dont use that pump and it works fine. If the vent hose is messed up it will trick the pump in thinking its full. I replaced the vent hose on the jeep and it works better.

If it was doing it since new it sounds like this should have been repaired under warranty. There was a bulletin about this problem in April 2004.

Vehicle is Difficult to Fill with Fuel or Filling Station Pump Shuts Off Before Tank is Full (Replace Tank Filler Hose) #04-06-04-031 - (Apr 22, 2004)

Vehicle is Difficult to Fill with Fuel or Filling Station Pump Shuts Off Before Tank is Full (Replace Fuel Tank Filler Hose)
1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition

Some customers may comment that their vehicle is difficult to fill with fuel or when filling, the pump continuously shuts off before the tank is full.
Cause

This condition may be caused by back pressure within the fuel filler hose. This back pressure trips the fuel nozzle prior to filling the tank, or results in a hard to fill condition.
Correction

Replace the fuel tank filler hose with P/N 10353139. This new hose has been redesigned to provide smoother flow conditions within the section. Use the procedure listed below.
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the General Information sub-section of the Service Manual.
  2. Remove the left rear tire and wheel.
  3. Remove the left rear wheelhouse panel.
  4. Loosen the lower hose clamp through access hole in body using ¼ drive ratchet and extension.
  5. Loosen the upper hose clamp.
  6. Remove the fuel tank filler hose.
  7. Install the new fuel tank filler hose.
  8. Tighten the upper hose clamp. Tighten Tighten the fuel filler hose clamp to 4N·m(35 lb in).
  9. Tighten the lower hose clamp through access hole in body using ¼ drive ratchet and extension. Tighten Tighten the fuel filler hose clamp to 4N·m(35 lb in).
  10. Install the left rear wheelhouse panel.
  11. Install the left rear tire and wheel.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

Bill thank you forthe reply AND for taking the time w/detailed info should have had fixed under warranty but was infrequent problem whch I attributed to overly sensitive fuel nozzles and as there are dual tanks I just felt that this was just the nature of the beast.Doesn't seem like too tough of a job ,friend suggested i keep a small section of 2x4 in car as he has same prob. which happens at his local gas station where he fuels up quite often he said he drives up onto the 2x4 w/l rear tire and it tilts the car enough so fueling is ok as I don't have prob at neighborhood gas station I think I would look pretty silly doing that. Again thanks

thats pretty funny having to stop at a gas station, get out, lay a 2x4 on the ground and drive on it in front of everyone. or worse, you drive on it and the tire spins and kicks it out 100 feet so you have to run and get it

dude, just have it fixed
