Howdy:
Just installed new heads milled to yeild 60cc so checked push rod lenght and doing so noticed that the pedestals have vertical movment and spin easily.
I tightened the pedestals to eliminate the movment and then measured the push rod lenght while on base circle. Does this sound right? When I take out the free play I cant see how I will be able to get 22 lbs ft to get any preload when I get real push rods. The lifters are new LS7s soaked in oil prior to install. I dont want to order new p rods if this isn't right.
Thanks

Default Set wipe first

First you have to set the wipe on the lifter then check length.
Here is a good link that explains setting wipe from Vettenut.

Good luck.

This is the proper procedure to establish optimal PR length....

Using an adjustable length pushrod simply keep messing with the length until after zero lash (all play taken up in the pushrod/rocker arms) you get another 1.5 turns or so to full 22 ft/lb torque. That's it....it's a very simple procedure that alot of people tend to over think or make more complicated than it actually is.

If when you do this you only get a half turn to full torque the pushrod is too short....lengthen it and try again. If you get three turns the pushrod is too tall....shorten it and try again.

Once you land the 1.5 turns measure your adjustable pushrod and order a solid one in as close to the same length as possible. Anywhere between 1-2 turns is acceptable.....I like to err on the deeper side (closer to two) because the valvetrain is usually a little quieter with more preload than less. Under 3/4 of a turn and it starts getting noticeably louder.

Hope this helps....

Ok got it Tony. Guess all I needed was to be lead to where I was going.
Just seemed odd that the pedestals didn't contact the monting pad.

Thanks for reply. I got the perfect wipe pattern by adding the shim.
