Got the dreded Sercive column lock message.. fuel cutoff hits at 2mph. However, the steering wheel does not lock (ever for that matter).
If it turns out to be the actuator is bad can I just order and install the CLB from Corvettes of Houston or do I need to do something first..
I've done the reading on the service column lock but couldnt find this answer.. I dont think the car has the K-Harness installed or the Secondary relay near the ECM.. looked in both places and didnt see them..
grounds have all been cleaned and the battery is a new optima red top (less than 4 months old).
OK after reading the stickie and this post on this subject I'm still a little confused as to whats the best option. Some say the CLB can ruin your BCM I dont want that to happen but I also don't want to be stranded on a cruise either ........so with that being said I have a 2001 with 17k that hasen't been touched by chevy for this (column locks with key out) Is my best recourse to get the CLB or is there another wiring option or by pass thanks for the help ..... in my c5 i got the column lock messeage but my steering wheel never locked. the dealership had already "fixed " the problem thats y it wouldnt lock but it would turn of when going over 2mph. i got clb and havent had any problems since
The dealership said the actuator motor has gone bad.. I called Corvette os Houston and asked them to overnight the CLB kit.. they warned me it might not be a fix for the problem.. but it works for some.. fair enough.. I asked they please send it and it arrived at 10:30am the next day (today). The dealer put it in for me for a nominal fee and it worked like a charm..
Thanks for all your help.. and special thanks to Corvettes of Houston for getting me the part so quickly!!!
Its good to have her back.. and not to have spent a fortune..
