I have a 1998 c5 with tracktion control switch. When I switch it to a diffrent setting nothing happens. I took it to a shop for some work one time and I mention this to the mechanic. He said the dic reported their is a problem with the swtich in my steering colume. I forget the code, but its in the steering colume somewhere does anyone knows what this is and how to fix it. Is this something I can do myself or a dealer. He said the switch is about $300.00 plus labor it sound I bit high, but I do remember him saying someting about it tells the computer its center or something. Anyone out can there can help me or is this something I have to send to the shop and pay big bucks. I would like to use the diffrent setting on the traction control.I have no idea how it works or drive since i cant get it to work help!!
How to Pull Codes:
1. Turn your key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
3. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. (This will get you into the "codes" section of the DIC.
4. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. (Have a pen and paper handy to write down the codes)
Note: Any code that ends in an "H" is a history code (something that has occurred in the past, but is not reporting as an error currently.)
5. Once the computer has finished going through all of its codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# Codes."
6. To optionally reset codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until is displays "NO CODES."
7. Press OPTIONS to go into the next module (ie, from PCM, or Powertrain Control Module, to TCS, or Traction Control System.)
8. Repeat Step 6 until you have reset all the codes in all the computer modules.
Note: Only reset the codes if you want to- it is not necessary to reset them every time you pull the codes.
9. When finished, simply take your key out of the ignition.
Really what went wrong that you had to replace the Steering Wheel Position Sensor was it the same problem i had...
My story...
My AH and TC would disengage randomly. Cruise control would disengage at times also. I started seeing the messages SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING and SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL on the DIC. Over time it would start triggering the C1287 code. The contacts in the SWPS are VERY thin and fail over time. Everytime there is a "glitch" on the voltage coming out of the SWPS the code would set and disengage the system.
One last thing. Be sure that your front end and steering wheel are in alignment first. If those are correct it maybe very well be the sensor. Search this forum. This sensor seems to go out a lot.

Hi, does anyone know how active the tracktion control should be? What I mean is how much tire spin is allowed before the brakes try to stop the spin. When new my 06 A4 would barely break loose on dry pavement with the ptm. Now, 30K miles later, I get a fair amount of fish tailing in first, some spin in 2nd.
