Ok, I have a 2002 Z06 and I was driving along today with 3/4 of a tank of fuel and all of a sudden the gage went to empty. I know there are some problems with the fuel gage but has anyone had it just flat line and not come back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The usual cause of the sulphur content building up on the sensors and causing the problem. Usually we'll run a bottle of techron through it from your local parts store and that will take care of it.

Try to stick with Shell gas. The QT, BP and Phillips 66 stuff around KC are not good for our cars. I've tried each one independently for months and I've had the gauge going to empty over 30 times. Just clear your codes and the gauge will work properly again as mentioned above. Add a bottle of Techron to your tank and it should clear it up for a couple months.
save your money and just "wiggle your ***" take your car out and at 30-35 mph move the wheel hard left and hard right (just as if there were a pot hole in the road and your trying to avoid hitting the hole) with in a second or so your guage will return to normal....
3 possible causes
1. ineffective detergent in your gasoline....
- use a good fuel system cleaner for 2-3 tankfulls ( Shell V power, Techron, Seafoam, Valvoline Synpower Berrymans Chemtool etc)
AND switch to a better brand of gasoline (www.toptiergasoline.com)
2. loose or corroded ground -- find, fix
3. back fuel sending unit... replace ... search archives for a DIY that doe snot require dropping the gas tank.
I had the problem in my '99 and Techron would help but it wouldn't stop it. I did some research and found there was a firmware update available to the PCM. I had the dealer put it in and no more problem for me. Other's have had the update and it did not fix their issue but it might have been two issues causing the same problem. Anyway, via the GM TIS web site/dealer, they can do it if you wish. No promises from me
