Help - Headlights pop-up when parking lights applied...why?
My 00 Vert and I had a very busy weekend First of all, I cleaned up a leaking battery problem, replaced broken vacuum hoses, cleaned and rewrapped all the wiring. and I now have cold a/c again and the HVAC unit works like it should. Next, I replaced my bad headlight/turn signal switch. It was quite a job, but a couple of beers and a lot of patience, I got it done! My dash lights now work and I don't have to keep smacking the hazard switch to get my signals to work. A special thanks to all the contributors to this site. Without the help from the many threads posted on this site I would be out of money at the dealer. Keep on posting guys!!! There is one problem I can't find - whenever I turn on my parking lights my headlights pop up. Do I have a bad module or did I install the new switch wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you feel like this could be related to the wiring repair from the battery leak you did? Is the twilight sentinnel set to on? Might be able to rule out the switch if you turn it off and try them. Hopefully someone very knowledgeable will jump on this one.
I had this problem too. its usually caused by your headlight gears starting to fail. I think when they are about to fail and start grinding the gears don't stop where they should and it confuses the headlight door control module causing it to open the lights when it should leave them alone.
mine started doing this immediately after I installed my first set of HIDs so I thought that's what it was but got help here to find the real problem.
interestingly enough mine kept doing it for a couple weeks after I swapped in brass gears. then like magic it just stopped.
As a matter of fact that is my next project. my LH headlight gears started grinding when it closes. I've already ordered a set of brass gears and this weekend I plan to dive into it with the direction of some very good threads from this site. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks McGllies for that bit of advice, I'll hit you guys back when I complete the job and let you know how things went. Thanks again to all!!!
