Default Tranaxle fluid on floor

Several years ago I had the tranaxle re-sealed on the left side the cover and axle shaft of my 99. Recently I found fluid on the floor I thought I re-developed the same problem. I made an appointment to get it repaired. Before I took it in I wanted to be sure there was enough fluid in the transaxle so I didn't tear it up so I checked it. When I pulled the plug I had a small amount come out at me. I thought it must have been laying up next to the fill plug. As soon as I started to put fluid in it came back out. I can only assume that it had been over filled when serviced last and blew out the vent on the top. We have made several long distance trips since the service. If it were leaking it would have been down to the axle seal or the bottom of the case in this length of time. My only conclusion is the it was over filled and did got out the vent at the top of the diff.. I have two questions. Does anyone know if that fill plug is the level that it is supposed to be filled to? Or are you supposed to fill it just below that plug? Or Has anyone accidently over filled theirs and had fluid come out the top?

I know fluid has been known to "burp" out of the vent. As to what driving conditions specifically might exacerbate this ... no idea. But I'd imagine that it being slightly overfilled would make it more prone to do this. Yes, it should be filled roughly to the plug level though it's not terribly important to be precise on it. A lot of guys overfill it because they jack the rear up and nose down the car when they pump in the fluid.
