So my '98's 6 speed has not liked me since I bought it 3 years ago, and now that I am thinking of selling I have realized just how bad it is. It doesn't like 1st gear and can grind into other gears unless you are very gentle with it.
I have no intention of putting an aftermarket shifter, but I just want to know what might be some affordable fixes. Is the washer mod useful only for aftermarket shifters? Could changing the fluid actually help (95k miles)? Anything you guys can come up with would be helpful. Car is stock.

Changing the fluid always helps, and it's soo simple to do on a manual....suprised you haven't done it already....
What fluid to use, I already know Dexron III but they didn't have any at the local store, just some generic ATF. Any recommendations as far as synthetic or non? Have to hit the Napa tomorrow to find some.

I ,too had a mn6 that I dd not like for several reasons since brand new. Drove it for 100,000 miles and decided to talk to RPM transmissions in Daleville IN. They did a refresher job on the tanny. Now a different car. I'm totally happy ith the tranny and I now really enjoy the car much more. Send me a P.M.
