What are you guys paying for the install of a torque converter only on your A4's?
I have all the tools, heavy and special equipment to do the job, but sometimes it may just be easier to let someone else do it (especially with all the stuff that it looks like you have to drop). I know this job is a lot more involved than changing out a TC from a normally mounted transmission, but I like to do as much work as possible on my car (at least my son does!!!).
Going to Ennis tomorrow for hopefully some more 1/4 mile runs and the weather looks to be good (60, low humidity, etc. perfect HP weather!).

Did you do the install yourself?
I talked to a local shop that works on ‘Vettes and they kind of scared me by saying to be real careful when you lower the transmission or you will crack something that will cost big bucks to repair, etc.
Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (RWhite)
Have not done it yet...it is the next mod on the list. I will do it myself though. I got the hours figure from my buddy who owns a tranny shop. He pulled it out of a standard repair guide they all use?
Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (wallstAL)
I just got my car back from Corvette Mike's, and total cost for install, car rental for three days, and tranny filter/fluid change was $670. $503.70 labor for the tc install. Great deal, plus they cleaned the car, vaccuumed, and feels like they tweaked the brakes, too (though I have been driving a Saturn for the past 3 days).
Too bad they are a bit long of a drive for you from Texas!

Hey Pete, how long did it take to preform the swap. I waited on my car at WCC, it only took them 5 1/2 hrs and they took an hour for lunch? Noticed you had a rental for three days.
Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (RWhite)
Our going rate for a torque converter swap is $435.00 including fluids and all. We have a Super Yank 3500 in stock and ready to go if you are interested. Give me a ring. I will give you a hookup on the converter and the install if you are interested.
Thanks,

I have seen technician/mechanics do the job in 4.5 hr! The routine gets repetative, take breaks go to lunch, talk, BS. From 9:00 - 3:30 lunch (1hr) & breaks and I am out! This included gear!
I know profit is necessary, but some take it to the extreme.

8.3 hours total charged labor - 7.3 for the tc, 1 for the tranny service. My problem was running from San Diego to Anaheim to pick the car up, so I knew it would be up there for a couple of days until I could find time to leave work early.
Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (ShanMan14)
That's a steal!
Yeah, I was impressed when I picked up the car and it was nice and clean, inside and out. Heck, as clean as the floor mats look, they might have even shampoo'ed the interior carpet before vaccuuming (I know they at least vaccuumed the car).

Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (RWhite)
Give us a call at LG Motorsports. Right here in Collin county. In and out in one day, and we can even sell you the Tq converter. Talk to me directly, and I will give you the Forum special price.
Sometimes this forum is nothing more than one shop or another begging for work, and I hesitate to participate in the "Frenzy". But since you are right around the corner, I felt that logic demanded that I chime in.
Re: Install price for a torque converter..... (Buckmaster)
I am the owner of Transmission Specialists in New Castle,IN. and a proud C5 owner.Last Monday we were a little slow at the shop so I went home and got my C5 and took it to the shop for a gear/converter swap.My R+R guy and me started at 3:30 in the afternoon,We installed a 2700-3100 ProTorque converter and a 3.42 differential and changed a Bad LH wheel bearing and installed my rear Bear Rotors and changed my exhaust and had everything back together and test driving it at 7:00 that evening. This was the first C5 that we had ever done, and we have every tool know to man at our shop, but it is NOT as big as job as a lot let it on to be.As far as everyone saying you need to get the speedo re calibrated, actually the speedo remains correct only the shift RPMs change. At WOT mine will not shift it just hits the rev limiter  I have a local guy that is GREAT with GM electronics and is going to do my PCM work this week.Any locals looking for a gear/converter swap just get a hold of us and we will be more than happy to help. :flag
