Default Manual transmission question.

Here's a question. Does anyone know if the 5th and 6th gearsets (drive gear & driven gear) from an MN6 can be swapped into a M12, leaving the other ratios the same?

The 5th and 6th gears on the M12 and the MN6 are the same parts. The difference in ratio comes from the different input shaft gear and its counterpart on the cluster gear (counter gear.)

I believe that someone makes different gears for 5th and 6th that can be swapped in to change ratios without disturbing 1-4.

Holy crap, I never thought of that. So the ratio between the input gear and the cluster shaft is different between the two? The two are different right from the get-go?

How exactly does power flow through the OD gears? 1-3 are on the countershaft, 4 locks the mainshaft to the input shaft...then what? Is the countershaft extension splined to the countershaft, and the OD driven gears splined to the main shaft?

The countershaft extension turns with the countershaft (cluster.) The 5/6 driven gear is splined to the output shaft. 5th and 6th on the countershaft extension are free spinning but have the 5/6 synchro assembly between them to attach them to the countershaft when each is selected.

The synchros spline to the countershaft extension and transmit power to the drive gears, when selected?
