Default AC problem "Not common"

Hello

I was driving my 00 Coupe today and I hit a bump in the road from un-even asphalt. I was going approx. 70 MPH and the whole car jolted when I hit the bump. I had my AC on with the fan at number 1 on the dial (Non digital HVAC) after I went over the bump number 1 on the fan speed does not work, all the other speeds work and increase in strenght with each number. Why is #1 not working?
I started to check the fuzes and all are normal. I turned the AC off and on again with negative results. Any ideas. Thanks

Probably the blower motor resistor.

Default AC Blower Motor Resistor

Hi, izzR1 is correct. Here's what happened. The bump jarred the car and the resistor which was probably nearly ready to break from brittleness, cracked. Think of it as a light bulb filament, after a certain amount of usage they get brittle, and crack. There is a combination of resistor wires in the blower control module and usually the first one to go is the low speed. Actually it is a common problem with most cars after many miles. Below are the instruction on how to replace.
Good Luck

Blower Motor Resistor Replacement
Removal Procedure

Remove the front floor kick-up panel. Refer to Kick-Up Panel Replacement - Front Floor in Interior Trim.
Remove the cover from the IP electrical center.
Remove the BLO MOT (blower motor) MaxiFuse® #49 from the IP electrical center.
Remove the RH lower IP insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector from the blower motor resistor.

Disconnect the blower motor resistor electrical connector from the blower motor.

LOOSEN the blower motor resistor forward retaining screws (nearest the dash mat) approximately 5 mm (0.197 in). (The resistor is slotted at the forward retaining locations.)
Remove the resistor rear retaining screw.
Tilt down the rear of the resistor; use care to not damage the portion of the resistor which fits up into the HVAC module.
Remove the blower motor resistor from the vehicle.
Inspect the condition of the blower motor resistor seal. Replace if necessary.
Installation Procedure

Position the blower motor resistor forward retaining slots onto the forward retaining screws and the upper portion of the resistor into the HVAC module.
Align and seat the resistor to the HVAC module.
Install the resistor rear retaining screw and drive until just secure.

Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Tighten all the resistor retaining screws. Tighten
Tighten the blower motor resistor retaining screws to 1.6 N·m (14 lb in).

Connect the blower motor resistor electrical connector to the blower motor.

Connect the wiring harness electrical connector to the blower motor resistor.
Install the RH lower IP insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
Install the BLO MOT (blower motor) MaxiFuse® #49 to the IP electrical center.
Install the cover to the IP electrical center.
Install the front floor kick-up panel. Refer to Kick-Up Panel Replacement - Front Floor in Interior Trim.

Picked up the part today and installed same. I found a lot of water in the blower housing, I dried it up and made sure all the drains were clear and clean. I know there is another drain behind the head near the headers how do you get to that one to clear it out. Thank you for your help

Default AC Drain

Hi, the condensate drain comes out of the firewall, it is located very close to the starter. The best way to clean it is from under the car. If you look up with a good light, between the firewall and starter you will see a black rubber tube with a somewhat rectangular end. It tilts towards the passenger side of the car, and is flat to the firewall. Take a long piece of somewhat flexible wire or plastic strap and run it up the tube. If you are dexterious enough you can reach up and pull it from the drain hole. Clean it out, cut the end off, and replace it making sure that it faces the same way as before. Another way is to pull the HVAC fan motor out and reach it from inside. Check the link for great pictures and info about the drain.
