Has anyone here actually changed out their own gears. I don't mean swapping out the entire diff, but actually going in and replacing the ring/pinion, and then setting it up. I know the tools required are a big financial hurdle, and it's a pretty tricky task to set the proper pinion depth and lash...but surely a few of us here have done it?
All the instructions are included with the kit. You need a hydraulic press and a torque wrench. We used gear marking compound and kept shimming the pinion until it hit the ring right, IIRC. I used the Motive 4:10 gear set and the shims were included.
I bought the shim selector kit as well, but we didn't use that. Just marking compound.
