I don't think I've ever heard of anyone replacing it before unless it was a case of someone doing the lambo doors. I would guess you'll have to support the door from overhead or have someone else assist you as well. The door connector through the accordian tube will have to be seperated at some point of course. Past all that, its unbolting the door. Now getting a new hinge lined up will be the task. The first thing that comes to mind, with the understanding that I've never done this before, is to draw a line around the exisiting hinge on both the door and the frame. Check the new hinge first to make sure its identical in every way. I would assume things will line back up but if not, the overhead support and some way to adjust that support would be in order.
I am going to look for the repair kit and see what is involved. Mine drops and then hits the catch before it lifts itself back up. When I shut the door it sounds bad and like a junker.
Maybe 97C5owner can tell you where to get the kit. Great idea rather than replacing the whole hinge itself. I'm sure it involves supporting the door so look for some way in your garage to set up an adjustable sling just in case.
