If your car is a manual, just remove the panel below the steering column and check for a relay installed at the connector to the left of the yellow air bag connector. (If there is no relay, but the column lock actuator connector is disconnected, check for an aftermarket CLB relay connected to the mating plug. )
Ok so if i go into GM for service on this exact recall, it won't prevent me getting stranded and screwed? So what exactly do they do, the lady quoted me 2hrs for the issue, highly doubt it takes that long, but i guess i don't know.
So what do i do, go in and have them fix it, or get the CLB kit and intall myself?
I just went through all of this over the last few days.. The lockplate was removed and a new relay harness as well as the motor or actuator was installed by the dealership.. This is a band aid fix at best.. The real problems is with the signals coming in or not coming in to the BCM thus sending a fuel cut off signal to the PCM.. You will need to purchase and install an aftermarket column lock bypass kit and install it yourself (simple job) or you will end up stranded and having it towed somewhere again and again and again. 8vette7 can give you a lot more info on this subject

I bought my car used last Spring, it is an 04 Vert, how can I tell if the column lock recall has been accomplished on my car?
You can also try to turn the steering wheel without putting the keys in the ignition. The steering should turn freely without locking if the lockplate was replaced or removed from the recall.. If it locks like originally intended that work has not been done. Regardless you still need the bypass kit installed, which the dealership will not do. There are many vendors that sell the kit, even on e bay here is a link to one of them http://www.corvettesofdallas.com/pro...b6690bce7d6f17
