Default Help!! Questions about clutch assembly and components?

Im seriously thinking about buying a Z06 vette, its seems like a great deal, but the guy says the only problem with the car is that the clutch is starting to stick and he doesnt know what the problem is. He said that a LUK Stage II Clutch w/ lightweight Fidanzi Aluminum flywheel was just installed.....sooooo does anybody know what it could be. And if you do have an idea, what is it, is it expensive and how many man hours. I really have no clue when it comes to clutches. Thanks a Ton, Nate

The aftermarket clutch crowd will soon lecture you about what a horrible clutch the LUK (OEM supplier) is without offering much technical justification why. I have one and track my car regularly without issue.
What do you mean by starting to stick?

Why buy someone's problem child? Obviously, this car has been modded(maybe de-modded), to what extent you may never know. Plenty of great problem free C5's out there to choose from...and great deals to be had right now. Keep looking....you won't be sorry....

What is normally reffered to as the "sticky clutch syndrome" is a common problem on C5s.
Typically installing a new clutch resolves the issue, I would be weary of a car with a supposed new clutch that still exhibits these symptoms, that could be an indication of a incorrect installation or even deeper problems.
Use the FORUM search fucntion, you will see that there are hundreds of threads on the subject, at least you will be more familiar with what you are getting into if you purchase the car.

The car in question belongs to my brother. The car use to belong to Jersey95 and used for road racing. ECS and a few other tuner shops did a majority of the initial work.

When we bought the car there was a lot of maintenance items that needed attention that we took care of and I made all of the necesarry repairs

We only drove the car home from where we purchased it and could not drive it any further because it was not properly inspected. It was late October 2008 when we got the car and the driving season was basically over so the car sat in the driveway until late December when I was able to clear the lift of the previous project car, which was sold to "NVTHIS" aka Jason.

We pulled the car a part and went over it. We did not know about the clutch problems until we took it for a drive when we registered it about a month ago.

My brothers life situation has changed and he now needs a daily driver and this car does not fit the bill and so that is why it is for sale.

The car was not de-modded at all. In fact, everything was upgraded.

My brother bought the car last October with the intention of driving it on the street and for HPDEs. The car already had a number of mods on it because it was set-up and run as a HPDE car by the previous owners. We made a number of changes/improvements to the car.

The exterior is probably a 7/10 because it has a lot of little imperfections due to tracking, and the rocker panels have some serious scrapes on them. However, they can’t be seen unless you are under the car. Car looks great from about 2 feet away. The interior is at least 9/10, as the pictures will show.

Now on to the mods.

Engine Upgrades: Motor has ABSOLUTELY NO Oil burning issues!!!!

• LS6 Motor w/G5X3 Competition Cam Package ($1750 installed by East Coast Supercharging!)
• LG Motorsport G5X3 Cam (608 lift, 114 LSA)
• 921 Comp Springs
• Titanium retainers
• Ported LS6 High Volume Oil Pump
• Under-drive Pulley
• 160F Thermostat
• Halltech LS6 Intake w/ K&N Filter ($300)
• Z06 exhaust system and Ti Exhaust
• Elite Engineering Catch Can
• New spark plugs
• New o2 sensors
• ECS mail order tune
• DEWITT EOC Aluminum Race Radiator w/ Integrated Oil Cooler (braided lines tap directly into block at the temperate sensor (no plate system)
• LUK Stage II Clutch w/ lightweight Fidanzi Aluminum (12lbs) flywheel (holds up to 500rwhp)

Suspension Upgrades:
• VPB Full C5 POLYURETHANE bushing kit throughout the entire suspension (upper/lower control arms, sway bars...you name it)
• Addco Competition Sway Bars (35mm front, 28mm rear) w/ T1 Adjustable metal sway bar end-links
• Bilstein Sport Shocks
• Stock Z06 Springs Suspension
• Elite Engineering Tunnel Plate with insulation
• DRM aluminum steering bushing rack installed

Brake Upgrades:

• Wilwood SL6 Superlite six piston aluminum race caliper (custom powder coated red) LG MOTORSPORT Caliper with upgraded SS thermo-lock pistons
• New Z06 rear calipers
• New brake rotors all around
• Speed bleeders
• New Wilwood “E” brake pads all around

Interior Upgrades:

• Entire car insulated with Damplifier Pro.
• New Head unit – Alpine (MP3 ready) with new front and rear speakers. Retained stock Bose sub-woofers.
• Vette Essentials oak interior and carbon fiber pieces installed.
• Properly re-sealed entire car to prevent water leaks.
• After-market pedal set (CCA)
• Hardbar Harness bar with mounting hardware
• Delrin Shift ****
• Column Lock Bypass already installed
• C6 seats on C5 rails with memory.
• MAM Travel and Route bags (Black)
• Trunk Lid Liner
• Southern Parts Rear Trunk Mat.

Everything Else:

• New key fobs
• Flush mount rear light kit
• HID headlights + relay to allow HIDs and high beams to be on at same time.
• Radiator screen
• Battery cover
• Clear corners
• Tow straps
• Rocker arm protectors

I will also include with the sale an outside car cover and ctek battery charger.

Car would benefit from having headers with the big cam it has. Just did not have time to do it.

Also, I have experienced the “sticky clutch” syndrome a few times during high rpm use. Not sure if it mechanical or hydraulic.

Man, wouldn't it be nice to get that type of detail every time you purchased a used car?
