Default Security light won't go away

Started a thread a few days ago when the ignition locked up on me. I finally got it replaced today with a new(ish) one, and the car started right up!

However, the security light will not go out. What might be causing this, and how can I clear it up??

Haven't seen that one pop up yet. I might have finally fixed it.

But thanks for the suggestion sarcastic sam. I didn't think you ever left OT.

Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine. Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button. Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times. This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC. The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created. It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds. Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occured in the past) but is fine now. Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode. It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".

Also:

Long shot but do you carry a bunch of stuff on your key ring?

One guy had a problem with all the extra weight unseating the key so the resistor pellet wasn't making contact and bringing on the security light

Try it with just the key and see if its better. If so you might need to use the spare key (or lose the bling).

The other issue could be a worn ignition barrel

no other keys on the ring at all - shouldn't be a worn barrel - it came from a car with ALOT less miles and years on it than mine.

Skimming through these might help.
