Default Need Help Please C5 Headlight Motor ?

My drivers side headlight seems to work fine....most of the time.

I never hear any grinding, but every few days it stops working. Simply removing the boot and turning the manual **** a turn or two and it starts working again.

I noticed that the motor housing is loose (compared to the passenger side), but I don't see any way of tightening it. I did tighten up the 3-10MM bolts, but it's still loose.

Any help is appreciated.

OK, it appears that your motor is loose on the gear housing and this is causing the gears to bind. This is one of the principal causes of the gears to strip. Yours may have started to do so.

The motor is held to the gear housing by four metal tabs that are bent over the gear housing. It is a stupid cheap design. You should take out the motor and gear housing assembly and bend the tabs so they are tight. I did this by gently holding the motor housing in the jaws of a vice and used a nail punch/flat head screw driver with a hammer to bend the tabs tight. I had the most success by bending the tabs on their minor and major axis.

Do a search on how to remove the headlight motor/gear assembly. You don't have to remove the whole headlight mounting assembly.

Also, check your other headlight motor by relieving the tension on the linkage by turning the manual adjustment ****. I bet that is also loose. The tension on the linkage can make it appear to be attached properly.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm looking for some sort of bolt and it's just tabs...that explains it.

I hate the thought of removing it...is there any other way to do it with shims?

I read in another post someone suggested gluing it it...

I think I'll skip the glue and look over the photos some more.
